Tell Me Something Different

The Continuing Story of John Duphrane

Yesterday I shot a man

Today his son seeks his revenge

What should I tell him

That's just the way the world is

You can't kill a man

For killin' a man tryin' to take his horses

His Papa shouldn't have come

Lookin' for a fight

Said I had not seen his woman

These last three nights

But he did not believe me

He drew first, but I shot him down

Then I dragged his body

Over to my horses stable

Concocted and staged this long fable

The name's John Duphrane

I'm forty-three now

I've killed better men

And never raised no brow

In The Dirt

Everyday I get up with the sun

Get on my boots, get on my jeans

And climb into my car

Some say there's no glory in the dirt

But I got all I need, honey from the bees

Freedom from the breeze

But my life was not always this way

I expected something else

But I feel it from the country, I feel it in my bones

It's pullin' me outside, it makes me want to change my mind

And I want to climb a mountain, I want to see a river flow

I want to be more than friends, I want to make ya sin

How old will I be when I die

I don't know, I don't care

But if I did, I think that I would be brave

Cause, I feel it from the country, I feel it in my bones

It's pullin' me outside, it makes me want to change my mind

And I want to climb a mountain, I want to see a river flow

I want to be more than friends, I want to make ya sin

Still Love

You left when I was six years old

I didn't understand it then, not sure if I yet do

Why would you come back

Why would you drink still

Did it relieve you of your worries

Did it help you to forget sometimes

Now you're in Florida

What is there for you

Your family is here

You threw us all away

Did it relieve you of your worries

Did it help you to forget sometimes

Somedays I can't believe your still alive

I wonder what it is that you do

I need to rest my mind

Sometimes I wish you would die

It my relieve me of my worries

It might help me to forget sometimes

Doubts

I've got no money in my wallet

I've got no money under my bed

I only have you instead

And that ain't free

So what do you, what do you think

Do you really think that we'll last another sixty years

What do you, what do you think my friend

I don't know about you

But I am still afraid

So I'm headed up to Baltimore

To see what I can make

Then I'm goin' up to Philly

And I'll act like I'm not fake

And I'll come home tomorrow

It's your love I'm gonna borrow

And everyday I need more space

And I still can't say this to your face

So what do you, what do you think

Do you really think that we'll last another sixty years

What do you, what do you think my friend

I don't know about you

But I am still afraid

So I've searched my whole life for that one

One who'll come along and get these chains off of me

And when I do, I get the urge to run

Cause oh, I think it might have something to do with me

Yes, I know that I am guilty

So what do you, what do you think

Do you really think that we'll last another sixty years

And what do you, what do you think my friend

I don't know about you

But I am still afraid

I am so afraid
